Mean, Median, Mode and Range gives students the practice that makes these four numbers automatic. Three practice pages are generated, so every answer in the key has been computed and checked a second way: small data sets with a whole-number mean, even-sized sets where the median falls halfway between two values, and bigger sets with seven or eight values. Every set is different, and the same pages print the same every time.
Then students use the measures on real data. The word-problem page is built from daily weather records published by Environment and Climate Change Canada, for Winnipeg, Toronto and Vancouver, rounded to whole numbers so the arithmetic is by hand. Students find the four measures, see what one very hot day does to a set, decide which measure best describes a week of mostly dry weather, and compare two cities. A one-page reference gives definitions with a worked example in plain words.
Inside: teacher notes with a four-lesson plan and the common mistakes, the one-page reference, three practice pages, the real-data page, an eight-item check-in and a full answer key with the working shown. Print it and teach it tomorrow.
