This pack covers every specific expectation in the Grade 4 Spatial Sense strand of the 2020 Ontario math curriculum, E1.1 to E2.6, in the order that makes the most sense to teach them. Angles come first, because right angles are what make a rectangle. Then come the properties of rectangles, coordinates in the first quadrant, translations and reflections on a grid, the metric system, elapsed time, and the area of rectangles.
Each topic opens with a short teaching page or poster with a worked example in plain words, and then practice. Coordinate grids, mirror lines, angles and arrays are drawn in black and white, so they photocopy cleanly and nothing depends on colour. Students fold paper rectangles to find lines of symmetry, read a park map, play a coordinate hiding game with a partner, weigh and pour real things against benchmarks, work out bus trips on the 24-hour clock, and find the missing side of a rectangle by dividing. The metric conversion page is generated, so every answer is computed and checked.
Inside: teacher notes with a teaching order, timing, materials, differentiation, the common misconceptions for each expectation and a map of expectations to pages; nine teaching and activity pages; ten practice pages; a partner game; a mid-strand check-in; a two-part end-of-strand assessment; and answer keys with the working shown. The free sample is the teacher notes and the angle practice page.
