Grade 4 Common Core Math: Geometry and Measurement
Twenty-six printable pages on Grade 4 geometry and measurement: angles, the properties of rectangles, lines of symmetry, metric units and conversions, elapsed time and the area of rectangles. Coordinate grids, translations and reflections (Grade 5 and later work) are included as an early look. It does not cover customary units, perimeter, measuring angles with a protractor or line plots. Check-in, two-part assessment and full answer keys.

This pack covers the Common Core Grade 4 geometry standards (4.G.A.1 to 4.G.A.3) and parts of the Grade 4 measurement standards: metric units (4.MD.A.1), time (4.MD.A.2) and the area of rectangles (4.MD.A.3). Some pages practise Grade 3 measurement standards (3.MD.A.1, 3.MD.A.2 and 3.MD.C.7), and the coordinate grids and slides and flips are an early look at Grade 5 and later work. Not covered: customary units, perimeter, measuring angles with a protractor (4.MD.C) and line plots (4.MD.B.4). Angles come first, because right angles are what make a rectangle. Then come the properties of rectangles, coordinates in the first quadrant, translations and reflections on a grid, the metric system, elapsed time, and the area of rectangles.
Each topic opens with a short teaching page or poster with a worked example in plain words, and then practice. Coordinate grids, mirror lines, angles and arrays are drawn in black and white, so they photocopy cleanly and nothing depends on color. Students fold paper rectangles to find lines of symmetry, read a park map, play a coordinate hiding game with a partner, weigh and pour real things against benchmarks, work out bus trips on the 24-hour clock, and find the missing side of a rectangle by dividing. The metric conversion page is generated, so every answer is computed and checked.
Inside: teacher notes with a teaching order, timing, materials, differentiation, the common misconceptions for each standard and a map of standards to pages; nine teaching and activity pages; ten practice pages; a partner game; a mid-unit check-in; a two-part end-of-unit assessment; and answer keys with the working shown. The free sample is the teacher notes and the angle practice page.
