Grade 5 Common Core Math: Patterns and Algebraic Thinking is one printable unit that takes students from patterns to equations. Each group of skills opens with a short teaching page and a worked example. Students sort real-life patterns into repeating, growing and shrinking. They turn pattern rules into tables of values and graphs on a coordinate grid, and predict near and far terms, including patterns with tenths and hundredths. They write and evaluate expressions and formulas, solve equations with whole numbers up to 100 and check each answer, and solve and graph inequalities.
The coding pages need no devices. Students trace if-then-else code for a fair ride and a budget check, find the longest jump with a loop, debug an angle namer and write code that compares two rectangles. A three-part modeling task has the class plan a popcorn fundraiser to reach a $90 profit goal, then revise the plan when the crowd shrinks and a free machine is offered.
The teacher notes give a six-week order, materials, differentiation, the common misconceptions, a map from every skill to its pages and a modeling checklist. They also say which pages fit Grade 5 and which preview Grade 6: expressions with variables, equations and inequalities are Grade 6 standards in the Common Core, so those pages work as enrichment or a Grade 6 preview. Two practice pages are generated, so their answers are computed and checked by the program that wrote them. Everything is in black and white, with plain wording a Grade 5 reader can follow. The free sample is the teacher notes and the real-life patterns page.
