Isaac Newton was born in 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England. Today he is remembered for explaining gravity and the laws of motion.
Newton was inquisitive. He questioned why objects fall and why the Moon stays in the sky.
In 1661, Newton began studying at Cambridge University. In 1666, Newton worked on ideas about gravity, light and mathematics while the university was closed.
Later, in 1668, Newton built a new kind of telescope that used a mirror. In 1687, Newton published his laws of motion and gravity. (Gravity: the force that pulls objects toward each other.)
Newton died in 1727. Engineers still use his laws of motion to plan bridges, cars and rockets.
