A number that names part of a whole or part of a group.

A fraction has a top number, the numerator, and a bottom number, the denominator. The denominator says how many equal parts the whole is split into. The numerator says how many of those parts you have.

Example: A pizza cut into 8 equal slices: 3 slices is 3/8 of the pizza.
