Name ______________________ Date __________

Split the shape into rectangles and triangles. Find each area, then add them, or subtract any piece that is cut away.

  1. A shape is a rectangle 8 cm wide and 2 cm tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 2 cm. Find the total area in square centimetres.
  2. A shape is a rectangle 4 m wide and 6 m tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 3 m. Find the total area in square metres.
  3. A shape is a rectangle 6 ft wide and 3 ft tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 8 ft. Find the total area in square feet.
  4. A shape is a rectangle 8 cm wide and 3 cm tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 8 cm. Find the total area in square centimetres.
  5. A shape is a rectangle 4 ft wide and 2 ft tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 9 ft. Find the total area in square feet.
  6. A shape is a rectangle 4 cm wide and 10 cm tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 11 cm. Find the total area in square centimetres.
  7. A shape is a rectangle 12 in wide and 10 in tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 10 in. Find the total area in square inches.
  8. A shape is a rectangle 10 ft wide and 8 ft tall with a triangle on top. The triangle has the same base as the width of the rectangle and a height of 2 ft. Find the total area in square feet.
  9. An L-shaped patio measures 10 ft by 8 ft overall, with a rectangular corner 6 ft by 3 ft missing. Find the area of the patio in square feet.
