A simple machine makes work easier by changing how much force you need or which way you push. The lever is one of six simple machines.
A lever is a stiff bar that turns on a fixed point called a fulcrum. Pushing down on one end of the bar lifts a load on the other end. The closer the load is to the fulcrum, the easier it is to lift.
You can find levers all around you: a seesaw, a crowbar and a bottle opener. Your arm works like a lever: your elbow is the fulcrum.
(Fulcrum: the fixed point a lever turns on.)
