A simple machine makes work easier by changing how much force you need or which way you push. The wedge is one of six simple machines.
A wedge is two sloping surfaces that meet at a thin, sharp edge. Pushing the thin edge into something forces it apart, changing a push forward into a push outward.
You can find wedges all around you: an axe, a knife and a doorstop. Your front teeth are wedges: they split food apart when you bite.
