Uranus: the Seventh Planet

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. It is an ice giant.

One year on Uranus, the time it takes to travel once around the Sun, lasts about 84 Earth years. Planets farther from the Sun have longer orbits, so their years are longer.

Uranus is known for a tilt that makes it spin on its side. Scientists think a huge object crashed into it long ago and knocked it over.

The temperature on Uranus is about minus 195 degrees Celsius at the cloud tops. Because of its tilt, each pole of Uranus gets about 42 years of sunlight and then 42 years of darkness. (Tilt: a lean to one side.)
