Grade 5 Ontario Math: Algebra covers the whole Grade 5 Algebra strand in one printable unit. Each group of expectations opens with a short teaching page and a worked example. Students sort real-life patterns into repeating, growing and shrinking. They turn patterns into tables of values and graphs, and use step rules and term-number rules to make near and far predictions and find missing terms and points. They rename numbers in ones, tenths and hundredths. Then they translate between words, bar pictures and algebraic expressions, evaluate formulas like 2l + 2w, and solve equations up to 100 with tape diagrams, a balance and reverse flow charts. They also solve inequalities and graph the solutions on a number line.
The coding pages need no devices. Students trace if-then-else code for a fair ride and a budget check, find the longest jump with a loop, debug an angle namer and write code that compares two rectangles. A three-part modelling task has the class plan a popcorn fundraiser, using their own survey data, expressions and equations. They revise the plan when the gym gets smaller and report to the principal.
The teacher notes give a six-week order, materials, differentiation, the common misconceptions for each expectation, a map from every expectation to its pages and a modelling checklist. Two practice pages are generated, so their answers are computed and checked. Every other page has a worked answer key, and a two-part end-of-strand assessment finishes the unit. The free sample is the teacher notes and the Real-Life Patterns practice page.
