This pack covers every specific expectation in the Number strand of the 2020 Ontario Grade 5 math curriculum, B1.1 to B2.9, in the order a term usually runs. Each group of expectations starts with a one-page poster with a worked example, followed by practice pages and word problems. Students read, regroup, compare and order numbers to 100,000. They build equivalent fractions, change between improper fractions and mixed numbers, and compare fractions to twelfths. They read and round decimal hundredths, and move between fractions, decimals and percents on a hundredths grid. Then come the operations: properties and checking, facts to 12 × 12, mental math with 0.1 and 0.01, estimating with decimals, adding and subtracting to 100,000 and to hundredths, adding fractions with like denominators, two-digit by two-digit multiplication and three-digit by two-digit division (area model and algorithm side by side), multiplying and dividing by unit fractions, and equivalent ratios and rates.
Several problems use real Canadian figures, and each one gives its source on the page: 2016 and 2021 Census populations of Ontario cities from Statistics Canada. The practice pages are generated and checked by computer, so every answer in the key has been worked out twice. Word problems, the check-in and the test have a hand-written key that shows the working and a check for each answer.
The teacher notes give a ten-week order, timing, materials, differentiation, the common mistakes for each expectation, and a table that matches every expectation to its pages. Everything prints in black and white, and nothing depends on colour. The free sample is the teacher notes and the decimal hundredths comparison page.
