The kiwi is a bird. It lives in forests and scrubland across New Zealand. Its home is full of trees.
The kiwi eats earthworms, insects and fallen fruit. It is nocturnal and hunts at night by poking its beak into the ground.
The kiwi has nostrils at the tip of its long beak. This lets it sniff out worms hidden in the soil. It is about 45 centimeters long.
Baby kiwis are called chicks. A kiwi egg is huge for the size of the bird, about a fifth of the mother's weight.
