The sea otter is a mammal. It lives in cold coastal waters of the North Pacific Ocean. Its home is deep and salty.
The sea otter eats sea urchins, crabs and clams. It floats on its back and cracks shellfish open by smashing them on a rock resting on its chest.
The sea otter has the thickest fur of any animal. This keeps it warm, since it has no blubber. It is about 1.2 meters long.
Baby sea otters are called pups. A pup rides on its mother's belly while she floats on the water.
