MS-LS2-2 lessons
Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.
The Next Generation Science Standards code MS-LS2-2 asks students to: “Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.” These Fieldbook lesson teaches it hands-on, with everyday materials, a printable teacher guide and a student sheet.
Ecosystems and Biomes: Who Depends on Whom Grades 6–8
- Are living things competitors, predators or partners? 50–60 min
Teams sort sixteen real pairs of living things, from coral reefs, savannas, forests and deserts, into competition, predation, parasitism, mutualism and commensalism, then stand in the room as a human chart to find the pattern. They explain why the same five kinds of interaction turn up in every ecosystem on Earth.
