How can a town use less and waste less?

Teams act as a town council with a waste problem. They rotate around four stations describing what real places did, from Ljubljana's food-waste collection to Kamikatsu's 45 sorting bins, score each against criteria and constraints, and design a plan with a way to measure whether it works.

Read this to the class:

Millbrook's landfill will be full in eight years, and nobody wants a new one next door. The mayor says, "Other towns have fixed this. Find out what they did, and tell us what will work here. We can't afford everything, and we need to know if it's working." Your team's job: be the town council's science team. Compare four real solutions, choose a plan that fits Millbrook, and design a way to measure whether it works.

Teams of three, with jobs that rotate at every station: Reader (reads the card aloud), Recorder (fills in the table) and Questioner (asks "would this work in Millbrook?").
