The fennec fox is a mammal. It lives in the sandy Sahara Desert in North Africa. Its home is hot and dry.
The fennec fox eats insects, small rodents and roots and fruit. It rests in a cool burrow during the hot day and comes out at night.
The fennec fox has huge ears up to 15 centimeters long. These let heat escape from its body and help it hear insects moving under the sand. It is about 40 centimeters long, not counting its tail.
Baby fennec foxes are called kits. Kits are born in an underground den and start exploring outside at about four weeks old.
