Earth: the Third Planet

Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It is a rocky planet, with a hard surface you could stand on.

One year on Earth, the time it takes to travel once around the Sun, lasts 365 days. Planets farther from the Sun have longer orbits, so their years are longer.

Earth is known for liquid water on its surface. It is the right distance from the Sun for water to stay liquid, not frozen or boiled away.

The temperature on Earth is about 15 degrees Celsius on average. Earth is the only planet known to have life. (Orbit: the path a planet takes around the Sun.)
