Hot and dry places are hard to live in, yet both the camel and the fennec fox manage it. They solve the same problem in different ways.
The camel lives in hot, dry deserts in Africa and Asia. It is about 2 meters tall at the hump. It has a hump full of fat, which gives it energy when food is hard to find. It is a herbivore and eats dry grasses, thorny plants and leaves.
The fennec fox, by contrast, lives in the sandy Sahara Desert in North Africa. It is about 40 centimeters long, not counting its tail. It has huge ears up to 15 centimeters long, which let heat escape from its body and help it hear insects moving under the sand. It is an omnivore and eats insects, small rodents and roots and fruit.
Both animals show that there is more than one way to survive in a hot and dry place.
