Nova Scotia Science curriculum. Every lesson comes with a printable teacher guide and student sheet.
Physical Science: Light
Outcome Learners will investigate properties of light (absorption, transmission, reflection, refraction). The rainbow lesson.
Lessons: Earth and Sky at Home (Where do rainbows come from?, How do crystals grow?, How does a cloud form?)
Outcome Learners will investigate properties of light (absorption, transmission, reflection, refraction) (a later-grade match: which materials let light through).
Lessons: Light and Shadows (Why does my shadow follow me?, Why is my shadow long in the morning?, What can light go through?)
Life Science: Habitats
Outcome Learners will analyse interconnectiveness of and within local habitats, including relationships among organisms and their environment (a partial match for the sealed-jar world).
Lessons: Our Living Planet (Can a jar keep itself alive?, Where does rain come from?)
Outcome Learners will analyse interconnectiveness of and within local habitats, including human impacts on local habitats (a lower-grade match: the garbage sort).
Outcome Learners will analyse interconnectiveness of local habitats, including relationships among organisms and the environment and food webs in a local habitat (a lower-grade match).
Lessons: Food Webs: Who Eats Whom?
Earth and Space Science: Rocks
Outcome Learners will analyse rocks, minerals, and fossils in the local environment: investigate properties of rocks and minerals and classify local rocks and minerals.
Earth and Space Science: Earth's surface
Outcome Learners will investigate how the Earth's surface changes over time: investigate erosion and how rocks change (stream table, hillside and sugar-cube lessons).
Physical Science: Light and Sound
Outcome Learners will investigate how light is used (optical devices) and sound in the environment; this is only a partial match for the sensing lessons.
Physical Science: Sound
Outcome Learners will investigate sound in the environment and test how properties of sound change (pitch and intensity) (a later-grade match).
Lessons: Sound: Can You See a Sound? (Can you see a sound?, Can a string carry your voice?, How do you make a high note or a low note?)
