Australian Curriculum: Science, version 9.0. Every lesson comes with a printable teacher guide and student sheet.
Science as a human endeavour
AC9S4H01 Examine how people use data to develop scientific explanations. Taught in lessons 1 to 3, tree rings and weather records.
Lessons: Climate Clues (Is this winter colder than when your grandparents were kids?, What can a tree ring tell us?, What's the difference between weather and climate?)
Practice: Climate Clues workbook
Science inquiry
AC9S4I02 Use provided scaffolds to plan and conduct investigations to answer questions or test predictions, including identifying the elements of fair tests, and considering the safe use of materials and equipment. Taught in lessons 1 and 2.
Lessons: Evidence Lab (How do you know a fact is true?, Why do scientists repeat their tests?)
Practice: Evidence Lab workbook · Build It, Launch It workbook · How Your Body Works workbook · Keep It Cool: Ice, Insulation and Staying Comfortable workbook · Winter Science: Ice, Snow and Staying Warm workbook · Think Like a Scientist: The Scientific Method workbook · Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers workbook · Steppe Science: Staying Warm on the Kazakh Steppe workbook · Monsoon Science: Rain, Sun and the Nón Lá workbook
Science understanding
AC9S4U01 Explain the roles and interactions of consumers, producers and decomposers within a habitat and how food chains represent feeding relationships. Taught in lessons 1 to 3.
Lessons: Food Webs: Who Eats Whom?
Practice: Food Webs: Who Eats Whom? workbook · Our Living Planet workbook
AC9S4U02 Identify sources of water and describe key processes in the water cycle, including movement of water through the sky, landscape and ocean; precipitation; evaporation; and condensation. Taught in lesson 2, the water cycle in a bag.
Lessons: Earth and Sky at Home (Where do rainbows come from?, How do crystals grow?, How does a cloud form?) · Our Living Planet (Can a jar keep itself alive?, Where does rain come from?) · Solids, Liquids and Gases (Where does a puddle go?, Why does ice float?) (partly)
Practice: Our Living Planet workbook · The Water Cycle, Start to Finish workbook · Weather Detectives workbook
AC9S4U03 Identify how forces can be exerted by one object on another and investigate the effect of frictional, gravitational and magnetic forces on the motion of objects. Taught in lesson 1 (friction), lessons 2 and 3 (magnetic force).
Lessons: Pushes, Pulls and Magnets (Why does a ball stop rolling?, Can a magnet work through a table?, How far will a paper clip jump?)
Practice: Pushes, Pulls and Magnets workbook · Build It, Launch It workbook · Forces at Work: Gravity, Resistance, Levers and Pulleys workbook
AC9S4U04 Examine the properties of natural and made materials including fibres, metals, glass and plastics and consider how these properties influence their use. Taught in the felt yurt lesson: why wool felt suits the use.
Lessons: Steppe Science: Staying Warm on the Kazakh Steppe (How does a felt yurt keep a family warm at −30 °C?)
Practice: Kitchen Chemistry for Families workbook · Clean Water Challenge: Mixtures, Dissolving and Separating workbook · Solids, Liquids and Gases workbook · Grade 4 Rocks and Minerals
