Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Science. Every lesson comes with a printable teacher guide and student sheet.
Scientific and engineering practices
6.2(B) Analyze data by identifying descriptive statistical features, patterns, sources of error, or limitations.
Lessons: Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers (Does salt make water boil faster?, Is that AI answer true?, Which source should we trust?)
Practice: Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers workbook · Build It, Launch It workbook · Evidence Lab workbook · How Your Body Works workbook · Keep It Cool: Ice, Insulation and Staying Comfortable workbook · Winter Science: Ice, Snow and Staying Warm workbook · Think Like a Scientist: The Scientific Method workbook · Steppe Science: Staying Warm on the Kazakh Steppe workbook · Monsoon Science: Rain, Sun and the Nón Lá workbook
6.3(A) Develop explanations and propose solutions supported by data and models. Students write claim, evidence and reasoning from their own tests.
Lessons: Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers (Does salt make water boil faster?, Is that AI answer true?, Which source should we trust?)
Practice: Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers workbook · Stone, Bamboo and Storms: Building in Vietnam workbook
6.3(C) Engage respectfully in scientific argumentation using applied scientific explanations and empirical evidence. Students grade AI answers and rate sources.
Lessons: Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers (Does salt make water boil faster?, Is that AI answer true?, Which source should we trust?)
Matter and energy
6.6(A) Compare solids, liquids, and gases in terms of their structure, shape, volume, and kinetic energy of atoms and molecules. The balloon-on-a-bottle and food colouring lessons.
Lessons: Hot and Cold: Particles on the Move
6.6(E) Identify the formation of a new substance using evidence of a possible chemical change, including production of a gas and colour change. Used for the volcano fizz and colour-changing secret message lessons (an early start on a Grade 6 outcome).
Lessons: Kitchen Chemistry for Families · Kitchen Chemistry (Is it a new substance?, Where does the mass go?, Can red cabbage tell acid from base?)
Practice: Kitchen Chemistry workbook
Earth and space
6.9(A) Model and illustrate how the tilted Earth revolves around the Sun, causing changes in seasons. The solar-angle lesson explains weaker winter sunlight (partial; no orbit model).
Lessons: Power Up: Where Electricity Comes From (Where does our classroom's electricity come from?, Can the wind power our school?, Why don't we use solar power everywhere?)
Practice: Sun, Earth and Moon workbook · The Reason for the Seasons: Tilt, Daylight and the Solstice workbook
6.11(B) Explain how conservation, increased efficiency, and technology can help manage air, water, soil, and energy resources (an adjacent-grade match: the electricity audit).
Lessons: Earth Day Investigations: Make Your School Better · Power Up: Where Electricity Comes From (Where does our classroom's electricity come from?, Can the wind power our school?, Why don't we use solar power everywhere?)
Practice: Earth Day Investigations: Make Your School Better workbook · Power Up: Where Electricity Comes From workbook · Our Changing Planet: Resources and Human Impact workbook
Organisms and environments
6.13(A) Describe the historical development of cell theory and explain how organisms are composed of one or more cells, the basic unit of structure and function (a lower-grade match; cell size and microscope work).
Lessons: Cells: The Smallest Living Things
