Engineering, Technology and Applications of Science

• G35.ETS1.1 Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.

Lessons: Build It, Launch It (Can you drop an egg without breaking it?) · Your Senses: How Does Your Body Know? (How do animals sense what we can't?) · Simple Circuits: Make It Light Up (Can you build a burglar alarm?) · Earth Day Investigations: Make Your School Better (Where would a new tree help most?) (partly) · Monsoon Science: Rain, Sun and the Nón Lá (How does a nón lá keep a rice farmer dry?)

Practice: Build It, Launch It workbook · Your Senses: How Does Your Body Know? workbook · Simple Circuits: Make It Light Up workbook · Earth Day Investigations: Make Your School Better workbook · Monsoon Science: Rain, Sun and the Nón Lá workbook

• G35.ETS1.2 Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

Lessons: Simple Circuits: Make It Light Up (Can you build a burglar alarm?) · Living with Water: Salt, Rice and the Mekong (How do salt farmers turn the sea into salt?, How do rice terraces stop a mountain washing away?, How can a house stay dry when the Mekong floods?)

Practice: Simple Circuits: Make It Light Up workbook · Living with Water: Salt, Rice and the Mekong workbook

• G35.ETS1.3 Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.

Lessons: Build It, Launch It (Can you drop an egg without breaking it?, What makes a paper plane fly farthest?) · Evidence Lab (Why do scientists repeat their tests?) · How Your Body Works (Where do germs hide?) (partly) · Keep It Cool: Ice, Insulation and Staying Comfortable (Which wrap keeps a drink coldest?, Can you build a cool box that beats the heat?) (partly) · Winter Science: Ice, Snow and Staying Warm (Which mitten keeps a hand warmest?, Can snow keep things warm?) (partly) · Think Like a Scientist: The Scientific Method (What is a fair test?, How do scientists turn results into answers?) (partly) · Test the Claim: Science Facts, Myths and AI Answers (Does salt make water boil faster?, Is that AI answer true?, Which source should we trust?) (partly) · Steppe Science: Staying Warm on the Kazakh Steppe (How does a felt yurt keep a family warm at −30 °C?) · Living with Water: Salt, Rice and the Mekong (How do salt farmers turn the sea into salt?, How do rice terraces stop a mountain washing away?, How can a house stay dry when the Mekong floods?) · Monsoon Science: Rain, Sun and the Nón Lá (How does a nón lá keep a rice farmer dry?)
